I learned how the process of a half-life works and how to use clay and marbles to help illustrate it. I also learned how the process of decay can effect the atom or element a substance becomes due to alpha and beta decay.
Today i learned that the different number things. Then a learned some stuff from the marbles and the half life of those things. Then i learned some stuff of the alpha particles and things.
I learned when you subtract an alpha particle you loose four from your average atomic mass. The element also goes down two. When you add a beta particle your element goes up one. I also learned it takes a while to get to carbon 12 from an element greater then 40.
I learned the difference between an alpha particle and a beta particle. When you loose an alpha particle your atomic mass decreases by 4 and your atomic number decreases by 2. When you loose a beta particle your atomic mass stays the same, but your element or atomic number increases by 1.
I learned the process of how a half life works and to go from one element to the other through alpha and beta particles. It was really fun and i would love to do it again.
The lab was about half lifes and decay. I wansnt there for most the lab, but my group did a really good job and explained it. I learned how the half lifes and the decaying mix and when you have certain amounts of time and certain amounts decay. It was like a physical mini model, and it was really cool.
