I wasn't quite sure about the properties of atoms, so I searched it. From what I got, it is important to know he different properties of atoms because then you can tell them apart. You will be able to distinguish between electrons, neutrons, and protons, the three different kinds of atoms. If you know their properties and can tell them apart, you are smart.
We mostly need to know them right now because we are in school and have a lot of tests over it. But it is also important for life too becuase then you can help other people, or if you go into the medical field or crime scene investigation or something...
Well it would obviously be easier to tell apart. You could find how mny electrons, neutrons, and protons each one has. It also helps you identify the elements in the periodic table a lot easier.

Also we use controlled splitting of atoms for nucular power. We also should know about the splitting of many atoms in a bomb know as an atom bomb, which had the force to demolish hiroshima and leaves behind dangerous raidiation.
